About Scribbli Gum

A message from Ruth Strachan, as the originator of the idea for Scribbli Gum, and judge for the competition.

I have judged writing competitions for many years, including the Australasian Poetry Awards.  For the entirety of its life I was a judge for Yellow Moon, from the first issue edited by Pat Kelsall to the last edited by Beverley George.  When Beverley decided to concentrate on her tanka interests, I was distressed for the number of poets who were losing their opportunity to participate. Also I very much enjoyed judging their work!

I was asked about myself organizing a replacement competition and publishing opportunity,  but my talents are not in the organizational field,  and also if I was to judge impartially I did not want to know who the entrants were.  Therefore the secretarial side of this is in the capable hands of Robyn Gosbell.

My hope is that all coming to this site will feel welcome!
